Octopus Energy Help & FAQs

Why didn’t the credit and debit card fee exist before?

Payment processing costs change over time. Introducing a fee for credit and debit card payments allows us to continue offering free payment options and maintain competitive electricity rates.

In the past, Octopus covered the card processing fees charged by banks when customers paid their bills by card. As payment costs have increased over time, we’ve introduced a small fee for credit and debit card payments to help keep our energy rates as fair and competitive as possible.

Starting May 1, 2026, a 2% processing fee applies to credit and debit card payments. This is a common practice across many industries, not just energy retail.

Customers who prefer to avoid the fee can always pay by ACH (bank account).
