Texas is abundant in two things during the summer: sunshine and heat. Cue the AC systems humming all hours of the day just to keep up. Solar panel owners are the unsung heroes of the Texas power grid exporting all that good homegrown energy to keep up with demand.
At Octopus Energy, we wanted to give our solar customers an opportunity to make power plays with their rays with a little contest.
How does Sunny Money work?
- From August 1, 2024 to August 31, 2024, earn as much money as you can from your solar buyback.
- Earn more by exporting and conserving energy when the solar price is highest – more info below.
- First place wins $500, second place wins $400, and third place wins $300. Spot prizes: Five random participants will win $50 each.
- The winners will be announced on September 5th. We’ll reach out to winners directly over phone and email.
How do I play?
Any Octopus Energy customer with solar panels is invited to join in on the competition. It doesn’t matter if you have one solar panel or a whole farm- there’s a chance to win something for everyone.

You can enroll in the contest until August 14, 2024 so don’t be shy, the more the merrier.
How will I know how I’m doing?
You can check where you rank on the leaderboard on the contest dashboard or in your account.
You can access your dashboard by clicking the Sunny Money banner displayed at the top of your Octopus Energy online portal. You must be logged in to access your Sunny Money dashboard. Your unique identifier will be your referral code, which can be found in the account details in your Octopus Energy app or online portal.

Yes, you’ll need to be a current Octopus Energy customer with registered solar panels to participate in this contest. Not a customer? Join us now.
You can take your winnings and apply it to your Octopus Energy account or you can take the money and run- the choice is yours. Prizes will be mailed to customers. We will confirm with you the best address to send your prize before sending.
